Radio Recap – Teachers Unions Threaten Strikes Over Schools Reopening

Teachers unions are threatening to strike if schools reopen.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, we discussed the fact that teachers unions are threatening strikes over schools re-opening. Many of them don’t even want to teach online.

This is quickly becoming a major issue with teachers unions now refusing to return to class if they don’t meet all of their demands. Even the New York Times has written a piece kind of saying how ridiculous this is, how they’re trying to have it both ways. The teachers unions are saying that they don’t want to return if all of their safety standards aren’t met. That’s one thing. But they’ve even gone a step further.  They don’t even want to really teach much of anything online virtually, either. They don’t want to spend too much time in front of computer screen.

My dad, Jay Sekulow, gave his take on the situation when he said:

So this is, again taking the focus away from the student and now the focus is on the teacher. The idea that there would have to be what’s called “gating requirements,” which you have in place before you actually have the teachers come back. That’s one thing. I get that.

What I cannot understand for the life of me, though, is a teachers union’s unwillingness to utilize technology to teach these students. Now, if these school districts capitulate to these unions, this is even more of a reason why we’re representing 1,400 families. I’m sure it will quadruple if that happens because they’re going to have to have alternatives. If these teachers will not do it, the public schools that are taking these taxpayer funds should reallocate those to the parents to direct where they can go so the kids can actually get an education during this pandemic.

We also discussed the breaking news that the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has granted Judge Sullivan’s request for an en banc hearing. That means that the full D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has issued an order that a en banc review by the full appeals court will happen and that oral arguments will occur on August 11th.
