We’re starting to see mask mandates being lifted around the United States as more Americans are getting vaccinated. However, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refuses to remove the mask mandate from the House Chamber, despite the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updating their guidance for fully vaccinated people no longer needing to wear a mask outside or indoors. Speaker Pelosi is even fining Members of Congress if they aren’t wearing a mask on the House floor.

Apparently, that mask mandate does not apply to Speaker Pelosi herself though. She was caught without a face covering at a crowded White House ceremony while she hugged and closely interacted with other lawmakers. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Speaker Pelosi’s hypocrisy displayed. We can all remember when she was caught at a hair salon mask-less in the early days of the pandemic. Why does she not ever have to follow the rules?

Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-2) – a licensed physician, retired Army nurse, and former director of the Iowa Department of Public Health who has run vaccine clinics herself – was fined $500 by Speaker Pelosi for not wearing a mask in the House Chamber. Rep. Miller-Meeks pointed out:

If the entire country can go without a mask indoors when only 60% are vaccinated, then certainly the science says we in the House Chamber can go mask-less. If people want to wear their mask and are insecure, I trust the science and I trust the vaccines. I know that we are not transmitting, and Nancy Pelosi should FOLLOW the science not FINE the science.

This type of hypocrisy being displayed by the Left is sending mixed messages to the American people. President Biden agreed with the CDC guidance echoing the message of not requiring masks, while Speaker Pelosi is fining Members of Congress for not wearing one in the House Chamber.

The Biden Administration has also been sending mixed messages about China. President Biden has not been tough on China like he said he would, and now it seems China is always winning.

ACLJ Senior Counsel for Global Affairs and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo talked about his new post at ACLJ.org and how the Biden Administration is dealing with China:

This challenge from the Chinese Communist Party is real and it is going to be confronting us for a long time. We need to push back against it in a serious way.

I’ve watched the Biden Administration and the rhetoric has been good, but I haven’t seen the actions. I’ll give you a couple of examples that I talk about in my blog on the ACLJ website. Think of Covid, think of the Wuhan virus, we know this came from Wuhan. All the evidence today points that it comes from a laboratory leak that they were in charge of in Wuhan called the Wuhan Institute of Virology. And yet in multiple conversations between the President and General Secretary Xi Jinping, President Biden says he hasn’t raised this issue.

We are going to end up with just the same thing happening again. The Chinese Communist party continues to operate these laboratories and doing it in a way that is unsafe. They are conducting research that is not to be taking place in laboratories like that. This affects every American. We have seen this with the lives of billions of people around the world and billions of dollars of wealth destruction. This is a place that we confronted China in the Trump Administration. This is just an example of how this Administration is appeasing China in a way that presents real risk to each and every American.

When the CDC and science tells Americans that it’s safe for fully vaccinated people to go in public without masks, that is what we should be following – not the opinion of a politician. Even in the United States Senate that is much more compact, there is no mask mandate or fines for choosing not to wear a mask. Yet, in the House Chamber that is way bigger and less crowded, a member gets fined $500 for not wearing one. Apparently, the spread of COVID is different in those two chambers.

ACLJ Director of Policy Harry Hutchison summed it up best:

The agenda, the narrative, is power and control at the end of the day . . . . Basically, Congresspeople are a testament to one thing and one thing only: the human capacity to remain vacuous every single day.
