Trump’s Joint Session Speech: A Bold Plan To Revive America—While the Far Left Sits in Defiance

This week President Trump delivered an address to a joint session of Congress, hammering home the reasons why Americans have given him a mandate to turn our country around. The speech — the longest delivered by any American President at one hour and forty minutes — covered the turnaround of the economic nightmare handed to the Trump Administration by President Biden, efforts to end the war in Ukraine, cuts to woke government funding and DEI contracts by the DOGE commission, the historic crackdown on illegal immigration, and the beginning of a new Golden Age created through the revival of the American dream.

The reaction to the President’s speech from far-Left Representatives who attended highlighted how completely out of touch they remain with the will of the American people. Rep. Al Green was escorted out of the chamber for disruption, and Representatives on the Left refused to stand and applaud for the entire speech, regardless of how bipartisan the cause.  The Left’s grandstanding showcased their complete disregard for the need to move our country forward into the future, which remains a key reason why they lost the Presidency and control of Congress in the 2024 election. On the other hand, President Trump’s speech showed a commitment to the promises he made to the American people throughout his campaign and the clear steps taken to deliver on them.

With Ukraine, President Trump has brokered a minerals deal that is good for Ukraine, good for the American people, and puts America first. It gives America a deep economic interest in Ukraine and is an important step toward restoring deterrence against the Russians.  In order to end the conflict, America needs a resolution that punishes Russia for their aggression, unlike the actions taken by former Presidents. It’s important to remember that weakness and the loss of deterrence is what brought us here. Putin took land from Ukraine under President Obama, deterrence was restored under President Trump’s first term, and a full-scale Russian invasion into Ukraine was conducted under President Biden. President Trump has the ability and the leverage needed to put deterrence back in place and stop this destruction and killing. Such a clear and decisive action would send a clear message around the world that aggression will never be rewarded.

President Trump also focused on the economy, sharing his plan to expand production of energy and critical minerals and to drive down inflation and costs to provide relief to working families. A key aspect of the Trump Administration’s economic approach is unleashing American energy producers. It’s no secret that President Biden cut the number of new oil and gas leases by 95% and stopped the construction of new pipelines across the country. These reckless policies drove inflation through the roof and slowed the American economy to a grinding halt. As Secretary of State, my most powerful tool to conduct diplomacy around the world was a strong economy and the ability to provide energy exports to our allies. It’s clear that the success of getting our economy back on track and delivering an America first foreign policy will always start with energy independence at home.

President Trump also showed America his Administration’s rapid successes in cracking down on illegal immigration, deporting violent illegal aliens, and just recently, seeing the lowest numbers of illegal border crossings ever recorded. These accomplishments amplify the leadership that was missing from the Biden Administration and its dangerous open border policies that created an illegal immigration crisis. Congress has also played an important part in empowering state and local law enforcement to assist in the illegal immigration crackdown by passing the commonsense Laken Riley Act. This legislation was the first bill signed into law by President Trump, a measure desperately needed to deport the dangerous criminals who have come into our country over the years.

The efforts of President Trump and his Administration in these first few months are only the beginning. It will take a determined effort to restore order, revive the economy, and put America first. President Trump is right in declaring a new “Golden Age” in America, because its best days continue to lie ahead. His speech delivered a vision for where our country should be, and he has shown the Americans who voted for him that his Administration is hard at work delivering the promises he made. After the speech on Tuesday, I continue to be optimistic for America and confident that we have the leadership needed to move forward.
