Life Is Winning, so Speaker Pelosi and Pro-Abortion Radicals in the U.S. House Try To Call Off the Debate

In the ongoing debate over the sanctity and value of the preborn, life is winning. Life is winning because, as time marches on, science and technology consistently reaffirm and document the reality that a baby in utero is a unique and distinguishable person who warrants full protection under the law.

Life is winning because people of good faith who approach this issue from all varieties of predispositions are convinced by the evidence of the baby on the ultrasound screen. They are convinced by the sound of a beating heart on the monitor. They are convinced by the presence of pain receptors that respond to stimuli. They are convinced by the babies who are born at increasingly early stages of gestation and go on to live healthy and thriving lives.

Life is winning because of these compelling developments in what we know—and can see—about the earliest stages of human development.

But because life is winning the debate, those who are uninterested in the merits of the debate and are, instead, devoted to the cause of abortion at any cost have decided to try to end the debate altogether. Faced with the reality that it is no longer realistic to root their arguments in a claim that there is no humanity present in the womb, they have instead decided that the debate itself should be prohibited.

Worst of all, Speaker Pelosi has scheduled this outlandish idea for a vote later this week in the U.S. House of Representatives. H.R. 3755, officially titled the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2021, is scheduled for a vote on Friday. If enacted, the bill would eviscerate all federal and state restrictions on abortion and would in one fell swoop cast aside all limitations on abortion-on-demand at any stage of the pregnancy. The current vigorous debate that is playing out in states across our country would be silenced.

If a state decides that mothers must be given access to state-of-the-art technology about their planned abortion procedure, this bill would deny that access.

If a state says that an abortion facility must meet certain safety standards and have an ability to admit a patient to a hospital, this bill would disregard those commonsense measures.

If a state decides to restrict late-term abortion so that they are no longer on par with the likes of China, North Korea, and Vietnam, this bill would override that restriction.

If a state outlaws barbaric procedures such as dismemberment or partial-birth abortions, this bill would strike down those laws.

Simply put, H.R. 3755 would elevate the act of abortion to something that is essentially untouchable by either federal or state law. Regardless of one’s view on abortion, H.R. 3755 cannot possibly be viewed as sound policy. Even if one chooses to reject the voluminous evidence that a preborn baby is in fact a human being, many of the above restrictions are in fact designed to safeguard the health and wellbeing of the mother. It is unconscionable that we as a society would place abortion on such a high pedestal that it would be shielded from even the most basic safety protocols demanded of other less morally problematic medical procedures.

The reality is that H.R. 3755 has nothing to do with protecting women’s health and everything to do with promoting abortion-on-demand. It would be much more accurate to title this bill the Abortion on Demand Act.

We must do better. The United States is already one of only five nations that fails to protect preborn life at any stage of gestation. We must not double down on this horrific mistake by rejecting any restriction on abortion whatsoever. The U.S. House should reject H.R. 3755 with animus, and should instead work to defend the value of all human life, no matter how small or defenseless.
