Rep. Adam Schiff Once Again Gets Caught Red Handed Trying to Mislead the American People

Rep. Adam Schiff was caught once again trying to lie to and mislead the American people. In 2019, he was caught doing this during the impeachment trial, creating his own transcript of former President Trump on a phone call with the president of Ukraine. When the actual transcript was released, it did not match up to what Rep. Schiff said.

Here’s what he made up the first time:

This is the essence of what the President communicates. We’ve been very good to your country, very good. No other country has done as much as we have. But you know what? I don’t see much reciprocity here. I hear what you want. I have a favor I want from you though. And I’m going to say this only seven times, so you better listen good. I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent, understand? Lots of it. On this and on that. I’m going to put you in touch with people, not just any people, I am going to put you in touch with the Attorney General of the United States, my Attorney General Bill Barr. He’s got the whole weight of the American law enforcement behind him. And I’m going to put you in touch with Rudy. You’re going to love him. Trust me. You know what I’m asking. And so, I’m only going to say this a few more times. In a few more ways. And by the way, don’t call me again. I’ll call you when you’ve done what I’ve asked.

He read that to the American people, and it was false. You would think that he would learn from that. Instead, here we go again with the January 6th select committee. Rep.  Schiff’s staff has already issued an apology because they displayed a text exchange as evidence between Rep. Jim Jordan and President Trump’s former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, except they moved punctuation and left off portions of the text message. If you were looking at the evidence Rep. Schiff presented, it would look like Rep. Jordan was directing Mark Meadows to take a specific action.

In reality, the text message was forwarding a long legal opinion; in fact it was a Member of Congress sharing a lawyer’s opinion. They used this as “evidence” to hold Mark Meadows in criminal contempt. In other words, Rep. Schiff once again made up evidence, tampered with evidence you might say, in order to try to have someone prosecuted.

Rep. Jim Jordan forwarded a long text that included a legal opinion by lawyer Joseph Schmitz.  Rep. Schiff presented a short summary of that as the entire text message in his presentation:

On January 6th, 2021, Vice President Mike Pence, as President of the Senate, should call out all electoral votes that he believes are unconstitutional as no electoral votes at all.

The full text message was much longer than what Adam Schiff displayed because it was an opinion letter from a lawyer that Jim Jordan forwarded.

Rep. Schiff then used this fabricated evidence to call for Meadows to be held in criminal contempt of Congress, declaring:

You could see why this is so critical to ask Mr. Meadows about. About a lawmaker suggesting that the former Vice President simply throw out votes that he unilaterally deems unconstitutional in order to overturn a presidential election and subvert the will of the American people.

My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, contradicted Rep. Schiff:

A Member of Congress did not say that. A lawmaker did not suggest that. And your office had to come out and issue an apology. Meanwhile, the apology was issued after you made a criminal referral to the United States Department of Justice on Mark Meadows – the former Chief of Staff who of course has Executive privilege to begin with. But, just put that in perspective. That they will willingly manipulate evidence to start a criminal contempt. Like the FBI attorney . . . changes . . . the words of an email, attaches it to a FISA . . . application and submits to a foreign intelligence surveillance court and gets caught. Or Adam Schiff . . . making up the Ukraine transcript. You wonder why people don’t give this credibility? That’s why.

Jay concluded:

So, the reason why we are calling this out today . . . is because we have seen this pattern in practice play out. But then to refer a Chief of Staff over to the Department of Justice for a criminal prosecution on congressional contempt, when the evidence that you said is proving it your office is now acknowledging that you doctored – changed the meaning of, changed what was in it, changed the sentence structure, changed the sentence. You can’t do that when you believe in the rule of law.

Members of Congress need to be held responsible for misrepresenting the truth before it happens again.
