It’s time we ask, is the New York Times the new mouthpiece for the Biden Internal Revenue Service (IRS)?

The long revered New York Times just blasted conservatives for what it is calling “unfounded conspiracy theories” about the poor, mistreated IRS.

Almost as if commissioned by the Biden Administration, the New York Times piece is clearly trying to paint conservatives in a paranoid, unhinged light:

Republicans, who have long accused the I.R.S. of unfairly targeting conservatives, have seized on the law to fan unfounded conspiracy theories about the threat that mom-and-pop shops and middle-class Americans will face from an emboldened tax collector.

It appears the revered “Gray Lady” has a short memory. The folks over at the New York Times have apparently forgotten how the ACLJ defeated the IRS in federal court, and forced the agency to admit that it did target groups because of their conservative views. They singled out groups because their names sounded like conservative organizations or included such supposedly incendiary words as “liberty” or “patriots.”

My dad, ACLJ Chief Counsel Jay Sekulow, provided a brief history lesson for the NYT and anyone else who’s forgotten the shenanigans of the Deep State IRS that it took the ACLJ to expose:

Let’s go through the history of this because, I mean, the New York Times headline of course is totally incorrect and misleading. Let’s go through the history of what really was going on here, because I think if you understand the history you’re going to understand what really is taking place. The IRS refused to grant recognition to a series of conservative groups, in fact as Jordan said refused to respond to these groups when their application – it’s called the Form 1023 – is filed seeking IRS tax exempt status. And then when they did respond after response after response coming from the taxpayer – the tax-exempt organization – we find out that the IRS has actually set up a system, they had a “be on the lookout list” (BOLO List) that said . . . these names are in an organization’s name, they need to be handled specially. They targeted, so the New York Times is absolutely incorrect.

As my dad also reminded the confused Times writer, their very employer reported how the Obama-Biden IRS division head Lois Lerner had to admit to and then apologize for her agency’s targeted harassment of conservatives because of their constitutionally protected political beliefs:

Here’s what the Times said: “Republicans have long accused the IRS of unfairly targeting conservatives.” And I’m saying Republicans have long accused the IRS? The IRS, and I’m holding the order in my hand that we obtained in federal court, section paragraph 40, “the IRS admits that it’s treatment of the plaintiffs”, and this was like 40 tax-exempt organizations, all conservative during the tax-exempt determination process, including screening their applications based on their names or policy positions, subjecting those applications to heightened scrutiny and inordinate delays, and demanding of some plaintiffs information that the inspector General for the IRS determined was unnecessary to the agency’s determination of their tax-exempt status was wrong. For such treatment, the IRS expresses its sincere apology”, as did the main culprit of all of this, Lois Lerner.

But somehow we’re the paranoid ones? We’re the Chicken Littles screaming that the sky is falling? Except we’ve already worked with a conservative, Christian organization that was targeted by the IRS THIS YEAR when their initial request for tax-exempt status was denied by the Biden IRS, and the IRS had to later approve that application. And now the radical Left wants to add some 87,000 new IRS agents, and GIVE THEM FIREARMS.

As ACLJ Senior Military Analyst Colonel Wes Smith, who was actually in studio this morning to discuss Iran pointed out, like a military opponent, the IRS is very strategic about who to go after:

This is the low hanging fruit for the Internal Revenue Service. They do not go after billionaires and multi-millionaires because they can afford to have CPAs and tax lawyers, and be tied up with the IRS in litigation for years. They go for people who they know cannot afford legal representation and so therefore you’re left with a choice – pay them or not and get penalized. They take your business or your property, and that’s where they’re going in the next few years with this new expanded IRS.

And the truth is the IRS has set itself up in such a way that even if you wanted to work with them, or fight them, it’s almost impossible to even reach someone within the organization. There’s no Customer Service. Now trust me, when they want to talk to you, there’ll be multiple agents at your door. Special Agents who’s job description initially read they must be “willing to use deadly force.” It’s 2022. Are we really okay with the government giving tax collectors a license to kill?

But the conservatives are the paranoid ones. Sure.
