DNI Tulsi Gabbard Sends CNN Lawsuit Threat Letter
Listen tothis article
Attorneys for Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sent a cease-and-desist letter to CNN after it accused her of committing voter fraud in Hawaii. Apparently, CNN, for the first time, truly cares about election integrity and voter ID laws.
The letter states:
The proposed publication of these allegations constitutes defamation under applicable law. Defamation involves the publication of a false statement that injures a party’s reputation. In this case, the allegations against Ms. Gabbard are demonstrably false and have the potential to cause significant harm to her personal and professional reputation. The publication of such false statements with reckless disregard for the truth meets the legal standard for defamation. The allegations meet the legal standard for defamation per se, as they falsely accuse Director Gabbard of criminal conduct, which is inherently damaging to her reputation.
We hereby demand that CNN immediately cease and desist from publishing the aforementioned story or any similar content that defames Ms. Gabbard. Since CNN has been duly notified that the statements in question are false, any further publication or dissemination of these statements will be regarded as an act of actual malice.
As you know, Tulsi is a friend and former colleague of our broadcast. And we fully supported her confirmation in the Trump Administration.
CNN has a history of accusing Tulsi of being a “puppet for the Russian government” and a friend of Assad. And who could forget when she was placed on a domestic terrorist watchlist – the ACLJ represented her after this outrageous targeting by the Biden Administration.
So CNN has already spewed what many would consider defamatory language, but when you’re a public figure, that bar is very high. However, the cease-and-desist letter clearly explains why Tulsi is still legally a resident of Hawaii and did not commit voter fraud.
Also, just from a practical standpoint, why would Tulsi lie about this? Hawaii is a notoriously blue state with higher taxes. Her vote could have more impact in Texas, and she wouldn’t have to pay income tax. What are the benefits of claiming residency in Hawaii? So it doesn’t make sense for her to vote in Hawaii if that were illegal.
But ironically, CNN is now finally sounding the alarm about voter fraud in America? Before this story, only crazy conspiracy theorists were concerned about election integrity. The latest smear campaign against Gabbard is ridiculous.
Speaking of election integrity, the ACLJ is now representing the Oklahoma GOP to preserve election integrity in the Sooner state. ACLJ Senior Counsel CeCe Heil explained our latest major lawsuit:
So Oklahoma has an initiative petition, which basically is saying that you don’t have to be or gain approval from a political party. So if you’re a Democrat or if you’re a Republican, you don’t have to have approval from the Democrat Party or the Republican Party to have your name on the ballot as a Republican or a Democrat. . . . So we filed yesterday with the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, saying . . . that violates our client’s First Amendment rights. They get the right to choose who their person is that gets on the primary. They get to choose that person, and it that also tells the voter that this person who’s on the ballot aligns with the morals and the values and the beliefs of the Republican Party or the Democrat Party.
We’ll keep you informed as this important case moves forward. As we’ve seen clearly in the past few years across the nation, seemingly small battles over election laws that occur when fewer people are typically paying attention are where the rules of the game are set – well before the summer primary and November general elections.
Stand with us now and make your voice heard in these critical battles by signing our election integrity petition. We can’t do it without you. Also, donate to our Life & Liberty Drive to have gifts doubled.
Today’s Sekulow broadcast included a full analysis of DNI Tulsi Gabbard threatening to sue CNN for falsely accusing her of voter fraud. ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell reacted to the news of Iran being an “extreme threat.”
