The D.C. commission looking at landmarks and statues actually recommended the removal of the Washington Monument.

On today’s Jay Sekulow Live, we discussed the D.C. mayor’s proposal that the Washington Monument, the Jefferson Memorial, as well as other monuments and memorials be removed, contextualized, or relocated.

A special commission called the District of Columbia Facilities and Commemorative Expressions Working Group (D.C. FACES) was commissioned by the Mayor of D.C. Muriel Bowser and other political leaders to review certain monuments, memorials, etc., in the District of Columbia. They’ve released their list of recommendations and when you see which iconic D.C. statues and memorials this group essentially wants erased, it’s shocking.

My son and host of the Logan Sekulow ReProgram, Logan Sekulow, told us about what was going on here:

You see this list, again this is coming from D.C. FACEs, which is an organization that the mayor and some of the other people in the government in D.C. have put together, and they’ve put out a whole list, a whole document of statues, memorials, schools, they believe should be either replaced, removed, or explained; essentially, to put a reason why they should exist and to put it into context.

The list is pretty debatable, to say the least. There are a few on there that I think we go through and you’d say, yes, I think that’s ok to be changed. I think in 2020 we can look at that and go there was definitely some evil involved. But, you look at the main list and you’re talking about the Washington Monument, George Washington’s statue alongside the Washington Monument, Christopher Columbus, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, the Jefferson Memorial, and again, the options that are on the table right now are remove and replace, and essentially contextualize these monuments. What’s interesting is the President has actually been saying this for years and people laughed at it.

Nobody is perfect. We know that. But this group is talking about asking for the removal, relocation, or contextualization of a list of monuments, memorials, and the like. And they don’t say which should be removed, which should be relocated, or which should be contextualized. They’re even recommending changing the names of schools. And not just those named after historical figures, and not just political figures. The list includes names like Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone, and Francis Scott Key, who penned our national anthem.

It’s important to note that White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany has emphasized that none of that will happen as long as President Trump remains in office.

Remember, the President warned that the Left might try this. He said they were going to be attacking the Jefferson Memorial. Well, here they are, doing just that. They’re attacking the Washington Monument. The problem is this cancellation culture we’re living in. Our history is not perfect – it’s complicated, and at times shameful – but, it is our history and it cannot be erased. History matters.
